Montana Tech’s annual Hot Dog Eating Contest was a success on Wednesday, October 5th in the SUB. At 1 PM, spectators and participants congregated in the Marcus Daily to take shelter from the blustery afternoon and enjoy day three of Homecoming Week festivities. While some students were enjoying complimentary BBQ provided by Montana Tech’s Dining Services, others were sweating over a tray of hot dogs- each hot dog boiled to perfection and branded with their names on it.

Each participant demonstrated great courage and some degree of technique as they scarfed down upwards of 15 hot dogs in under 5 minutes.
Representing the Rugby team, Corey Baker stated that he had not trained for the event but had prepared himself by eating an early breakfast and staying hungry the few hours leading up to the event. He also said that hot dogs are “disgusting”, in general. He advised that future participants come to the event with a good amount of mustard and training.
After the competitive dust and vomit had settled, first place was awarded to Morgan Warrington of BAJA who gained 5 points for his club. BAJA was followed up by Circle K in second place, with three points, and Highlands Trade in third place, with two points. One participation point was given to each club with a representative who was able to attend and finish one hot dog. The clubs awarded homecoming points included BAJA, Circle K, Highlands Trade, ASSE, ASME, Rugby, SEG, EEMT, Geo, SME, ACM, SPE, AGC, and BSU.
