The Orediggers came out of the locker room on fire during Saturday’s game against the Northern Skylights.
The Digger’s number 81, Mitchell Keeton, scored almost immediately after the Orediggers received the ball in the beginning of the game. The defense was feeling just as hot as the offense, as number 36, Nic Amestoy stopped the Lights at the 11 yard line during the kickoff return. The lights continued to struggle through the Digger defense, was forced to punt, and ended up getting the punt blocked by number 24, Anthony Nelson. The offense used that blocked punt to give Mitchell Keeton another chance to score for the Diggers. Montana Tech’s fire slowly dwindled, and Northern scored a touchdown shortly after. The Diggers couldn’t seem to find that spark to set their game ablaze again, and struggled with little mistakes that set their team back every time it looked like something great was about to happen. The offensive line struggled to hold strong, forcing quarterback Quinn McQueary to scramble to find an open player down field. At the end of the first half the score remained 14-7 Orediggers.
The second half the Orediggers came out of the locker room focused and ready to play again. Their nerves were calmed, and they looked like the Diggers we know and love. A 51 yard punt return by number 89, Levi Lynde, jump started the 3rd quarter and ultimately lead to a touchdown made by number 25, Zach Bunney. The Digger defense came on strong as well, not letting the Lights pass their 30 yard line. The defense kept pushing Northern back till their offense collapsed and gave number 11, Gunnar Kayser an opportunity to snatch the ball out of the air and run it back for a touchdown. The Orediggers scored one more time during the 4th quarter, when McQueery saw an opening in the Light’s defensive line, and dove into the endzone. The Lights kicked a field goal, but the Diggers had pretty much wrapped up the game already. Orediggers took the win with a final score of 35-10.
