On Thursday, Senior Night for four of the Diggers, Tech ousted the University of Great Falls Argonauts, 25-16, 25-13, 25-13. Seniors Jordan Danz and Bailie Cortner led the Tech spikers with 13 and 11 kills. Junior Nicole Peacock was not far behind with 11 kills. Senior setter Mackenzie Bauck had 31 assists and 4 digs in the matchup, and senior Angie Pancost finished the night with three aces and five digs.
In Saturday’s action, Tech was just as commanding of the hardwood, defeating Montana State Northern 25-18, 22-25, 25-19, 25-20. Freshman Gena McMillan led the charge with a career high 19 kills. Cortner followed with 15 kills on a near-perfect .538 hitting percentage. Danz finished with 14 kills and 24 digs. The Diggers finished the season with three straight wins, earning their first 20-win season under fifth-year head coach Brian Solomon.
Montana Tech is in Great Falls this Friday for the Frontier Conference Tournament. According to Pancost, there are two ways the Diggers can earn a ticket to the National Tournament—either with the conference tournament, or secure an at-large bid, an honor given to a deserving team, and voted on by the conference coaches. The Diggers open up their conference tournament with a match against Lewis and Clark State College, Friday November 2 at 2 pm.
