This last weekend the Oredigger golf team had a tournament in Billings, the men’s team placed 3rd overall, and the women’s team placed 7th overall. Sean Benson placed 3rd shooting even par, David Starcevich got top 15 shooting 227, and Cole Noctor got top 15 228. Originally, the men’s team was leading the tournament after the first round, but was then pushed aside by Rocky and Lewis and Clark.

This year the men’s team has a very good chance to be conference champions during the golf conference championships down in Arizona. Lewis and Clark and Rocky have always been the top two teams, and this year the Orediggers have a good shot to beat them and win it all.
This week I spoke to senior golfer Cole Noctor about what it is like to golf for Montana Tech. Cole stated, “What I enjoy most about golf is our team. We by far have the most fun at every tournament we go to. From the practice round to warming up to tournament and play our team is always having fun with it. We have an awesome group of guys and girls. Everyone gets along with and likes everyone else on the team and everyone is jealous with how much fun we always have.”
Since spring is not actually “spring” weather in Butte, I was curious about what it is like to golf for Tech. Cole made sure to tell me that, “Practicing in Butte is great.” I found out that the golf team has access to the Butte Country Club, Fairmont, the Highland View Golf Course, Old Works, and the Anaconda Country Club.
Cole said, “Spring season can be tough because in our early spring tournaments other teams have been playing for a month or more, and our courses aren’t even open yet. But we have access to a lot of great courses over the summer so that really helps us be ready when fall comes and the actual golf season starts.”
I look forward to seeing how this team progresses from this spring to the next season in the fall. This team has plenty of potential, and shows real promise to make a statement in conference in Arizona next fall. This summer will hopefully bring enough sunshine to help the Orediggers practice as much as they can to advance in their golfing competitions.
