This last weekend the Oredigger golf team had a tournament in Billings, the men’s team placed 3rd overall, and the women’s team placed 7th overall. Sean Benson placed 3rd shooting even par, David Starcevich got top 15 shooting 227, and Cole Noctor got top 15 228. Originally, the men’s team was leading the tournament after the first round, but was then pushed aside by Rocky and Lewis and Clark.

Lady Diggers beat Carroll twice, Men's season ends with loss

By Angie Padden March madness is almost here! The official tournament starts with 68 teams on March 12, and continues until the championship on April 3. If you remember last year, the tourney ended with a last second buzzer beater for Villanova to beat the ever famous North Carolina Tar Heels. Martha Dembek had 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists as the Montana Tech women’s basketball team fell to conference rival Carroll College 50-65 on February 2. Fellow senior Hattie Thatcher had eight points and three assists in the loss. On the men’s side, Chris O’Neill had 15 points, shooting 67 percent from the field, in a 42-65 loss to the Saints. It was a great night to be an Oredigger. Besides having a couple fantastic games with extremely rowdy crowds, the football and volleyball teams were being congratulated for their successful 2016 seasons. Having this celebration during the halftime of the boys’ basketball game made for a crowd that was large enough to fill almost the entire gym. This exciting crowd made it easy for the Lady Oredigger basketball team to get pumped and trample over their opponent, the Rocky Mountain College Battlin’ Bears, on January 28. The boys’ basketball team put up a valiant effort against Rocky, but failed in beating them in the end. Macy Ricketts
After a commanding 3-0 and 3-1 victories for the Digger volleyball team over the weekend, Tech moved up to number 25 in the national polls and finished the regular season second in the Frontier Conference. By Angie Padden

The Montana Tech football team lost a close matchup in their 2016 season opener against Carroll College on Saturday, September 4 in Helena. The Saints completed a 45-yard field goal to defeat the Diggers 27-24 in a heated rivalry game. During the 2015 season, Tech defeated Carroll both times the teams competed for the first time since 1999. |
